There is a lot of public interest about the protecting the environment at the minute and obviously everybody is worried about what we are doing to our planet. The ozone layer is melting, global warming is on its way (although to my knowledge its just getting colder and wetter), carbon production and pollution is increasing by the day and obviously there seems to be a lot of cause for concern for the general public. But what are we doing to help preserve our precious planet and the environment?
Ways People are Protecting the Environment
One way the Government is helping to protect the environment is by introducing Carbon restrictions for companies, basically giving each company a certain level of Carbon they are free to produce and anything over this threshold is measured and the company is charged accordingly. Some companies look after their carbon output and have carbon credits left at the end of the year, they can can make money from this by Carbon Credit Trading. Basically any spare credits a company has they can sell to the companies who are over producing so they still pay for the carbon but nowhere near as much as the government fines. So for instance if you have a company who specialise in Gold Trading for instance and their carbon output is more than they are allowed instead of paying a $10o, 000 fine they can purchase credits from a timber producing company for maybe $40,000 meaning everybody wins.
Does it actually Protecting the Environment
Well everybody except the environment because it is still being damaged but at least this way companies producing too much have to pay and companies who try to cut down their output are rewarded. A good step in the right direction if you ask me!
